Immediate release—Friday, October 14, 2011 marked a celebration 25 years in the making for Houston-based Farouk Systems and its founder Farouk Shami. Current employees, friends, family and inaugural Farouk educators came together to commemorate the company’s 25th anniversary and birthday of an entrepreneur that has always had big dreams. A vision that began decades ago with an immigrant, a dream and a spirit defiant to the word “no” has since evolved into a multi-million dollar haircare empire dedicated to preserving the environment and the health of the professional hairdresser working in the salon.
Automated assembly lines, pre-printed bottles and industrial-sized mixing vats were things of the future and luxuries not afforded in the early days of Farouk Systems says “First Lady of SunGlitz” and 25 year Farouk educator Beverly Morrison.
“My children and Farouk’s son were some of the first warehouse employees, and they would put all the labels on the bottles by hand,” Morrison said. “Farouk set out to change the unscrupulous ways of other hair care manufacturers, and along with making the industry a safer place he has changed the lives of each person he has touched.”
Two and a half decades later, Farouk Systems is recognized as the innovator for the safest hair products in the business. Farouk’s invention of ammonia-free hair color and release of the first CHI Ceramic Hairstyling Iron revolutionized the hair industry, and Farouk’s move to be “Made in the USA” has been modeled around the country, reaching far beyond the scope of the beauty industry.
“The people that joined me in the first days of Farouk Systems were not doing it for material gain,” Shami said. “We were on a mission. We were committed to saving the lives of the hairdressers. I would not be where I am today without the support and knowledge of my Farouk Systems family, past and present.”
